World On A String
World On A String
World on a String is a large scale embroidery piece, made in 2017. All pieces are created using the technique of freehand machine embroidery, allowing the artist to 'draw' with the sewing machine. All pieces are made using material remnants and (where possible) finished in upcycled frames. There are no copies, each artwork is completely unique.
The work shows a hand outstretched precariously holding a thread attached to a globe, handing like a pendant on a chain. At the bottom of the image lies a person with mouth open willing the globe to fall so it may consume it. Around the edge are displayed a quote from Aldous Huxley's Heaven and Hell.
